The B.C. Forest Industry in Transition: Percy Guichon is a Guest of the On The Brink Podcast
Prince George, B.C. –Percy Guichon, Executive Director of Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. (CCR), a joint venture company owned by the Tŝideldel First Nation and the Tl’etinqox Government, and a Councillor of Tŝideldel First Nation was invited as a guest to appear on the "On The Brink" Podcast hosted by John A. Brink.
The focus of the podcast was talking about British Columbia’s forest industry in transition, and Guichon shared insights into how First Nations are at the forefront of good forest management, stewardship, and leadership. Guichon also shared his personal journey within the sector, offering a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities he has seen in the past few decades.
In the show, Host John Brink and Guichon discussed sustainable management practices, with Guichon highlighting the massive impacts of the 2017 Elephant Hill wildfire and how CCR was able to take significant strides to help lead wildfire risk reduction, stand rehabilitation, and fibre utilization projects. When discussing replanting and regrowth, Guichon mentioned projects such as the Pressy Lake pilot project, which received funding from the Forest Enhancement Society of BC and Natural Resources Canada. Guichon also shared his experience speaking at the 2024 DEMO International Conference in Ottawa and the pride he has for his team, as they were awarded the 2024 Indigenous Business Leadership Award by the Forest Products Association of Canada.
Guichon reiterated his belief that reconciliation is not just about acknowledging the past; it's about reshaping the present and future to embrace unity, opportunity, and collaboration. With a shared vision between First Nations, the industry, and the government, he believes a sustainable and consistent forest industry is achievable.
