Williams Lake, B.C.: Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. (CCR) has been recognized with the prestigious MUSE Creative Award in the Educational category for their compelling video series, First Nations Taking the Lead in Forestry in B.C. This project showcases CCR’s innovative approach to forest rehabilitation in Pressy Lake, near 70 Mile, and its leadership in incorporating Indigenous values into sustainable forestry practices.
“We were not only surprised but shocked to win this award,” said Percy Guichon, Executive Director of CCR.
“As people in forestry, we often talk about how nice it would be if people understood the work we do. These videos, as a part of our broader communications efforts, helps us do just that. We highlighted the hard-working people on our crews, the challenges of the work we undertake, and the difference we’re making as First Nations leading the way in forest rehabilitation efforts. We thank our partners at Amplify Consulting Inc. and Kiwi Man Creative for helping us tell our stories authentically and to a broader audience.” The award-winning video series was a collaborative effort between CCR, Amplify Consulting Inc., and Kiwi Man Creative.
Liam, founder of Kiwi Man Creative, shared,
“It’s an incredible feeling to be trusted to help tell CCR’s story because the work they are doing is so important. Initially, I wondered why this wasn’t being done on a larger scale. As the project unfolded, I gained insight into the challenges of scaling such an impactful idea, which only motivated me further to share their journey. While it’s a privilege to tell their story, the real credit goes to the CCR team for taking on difficult tasks with such a positive and inspiring mindset—it’s truly contagious.”
Aleece Laird, of Amplify Consulting Inc. echoed Hall’s sentiments.
“We are so thrilled to be a part of the communications work of Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. and to share this award with them and Kiwi Man Creative,” said Laird, CEO of Amplify Consulting Inc. “Telling this story through video was a wonderful experience to not only learn what this innovative forest rehabilitation work looks like on the ground but to do so in a way that allows the viewer the chance to learn about something they may never have the opportunity to experience out on the land. Kudos to the team at Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation Ltd. for this creative award for your storytelling of the incredible work you’re doing in forestry.”
The Pressy Lake pilot project, funded in part by the Forest Enhancement Society of BC, is featured in the award-winning three-part video series and showcases the innovative work to rehabilitate areas impacted by the 2017 Elephant Hill wildfire.
“For us, creating these videos was important to help the public understand the work we are doing in forestry to mitigate wildfire risk to communities, create forests that support the growth of important medicinal and food-providing plants, thoughtfully enrich habitat for wildlife, and utilize low-value wood waste to support B.C.'s bioeconomy,” added Guichon.
