The increasing threat of wildfires and the devastation caused by them has most people in British Columbia on high alert, especially through the summer months. Our team at Central Chilcotin Rehabilitation (CCR) has been relentlessly working to rehabilitate the devastation from the 2017 wildfires, as well as taking proactive steps to reduce the risks from future wildfires.
With a substantial $10 million in funding from Natural Resources Canada as part of the federal Two Billion Trees program, CCR is not just planting trees—we are building future resiliency against fires.
What’s Happening?
We are planting Douglas Fir in areas where this species' previous forest cover was before the devastation caused by the wildfire.
A varied selection of tree species is being introduced to strengthen the ecological resilience of our forests.
Aspen seedlings have been planted, ready to act as fuel breaks or natural barriers against future wildfires.
Listen to CCR's Forestry Superintendent Daniel Persson, in conversation with Doug Herbert on CBC Radio, talking about the work our teams are doing to rehabilitate our forests.
